New barn for root-digging pigs
The Holtkuile family from Wijhe (Overijssel) decided to take a different approach when expanding their pig and dairy farm. Instead of mirroring their existing pig barn with 1,600 meat pigs, they built a new barn that houses 1,100 rooting pigs. Rooting pigs can root in bedding all day, allowing them to exhibit their natural behavior more effectively.
Ventilation
The barn is equipped with the LuxAir daylight and air intake system from Bouwimpex, which allows for precise control of the ventilation in the barn. LuxAir is a combination of Bouwplast plastic window frames with an aerodynamic air vent integrated. Thanks to these vents, the airflow per pen can be regulated. Wind pressure caps have been placed over the vents, minimizing the influence of the wind on the indoor climate in the barn.
In addition to the light shaft with air intake vents, Bouwimpex also supplied Agraplast doors, and Bouwplast plus FR panels for the departmental walls in the barn.
